The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
According to the DCI, the latest case was reported on September 18 after a passenger boarded a Dreamline bus travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa.
During the journey, the passenger was allegedly drugged by the person seated next to him, causing him to lose consciousness.
He later regained consciousness at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, where he discovered that his bag and other personal belongings were missing.
Detectives from Makupa Police Station subsequently launched an investigation and followed forensic leads that took them to Magongo.
The operation led to the arrest of Pius Paskale Frugenze, 52, and his wife, Redempta Revelian Kuleta, 47, both Tanzanian nationals.
A search of the couple’s residence allegedly led to the recovery of the complainant’s HP laptop and iPhone 17 Pro Max, providing detectives with a major breakthrough.
The DCI said officers also recovered several mobile phones, 20 phone chargers, 10 wristwatches, 20 wallets and assorted clothing suspected to be stolen.
Substances suspected to be stupefying drugs were also recovered from the residence.
The suspects remain in custody and are undergoing processing pending arraignment, while the recovered items have been retained as exhibits.
